At the time of writing this review, this debut book has been short listed for the Booker 2020 and longlisted for the women’s prize fiction 2021 (short list not yet announced).
This is a very well written novel looking at motherhood. The main character’s relationship as a wife, daughter, daughter in law and mother are all examined but the main story is about her relationship with her mum and how it changes as her mum faces ill health. I would certainly be happy to read any other future books by Avni.
