We are already a fan of Dan Smith having read some of his adult thrillers and children’s books but he found out that I hadn’t read My Friend the Enemy so I had no choice but to rectify this quickly! Well you have to keep authors on side in case they do something dreadful to you in their next book!
I am happy to recommend all of Dan’s books without hesitation. This one is perfect for a class read or for any child who is interested in WW2.
It plays out quite gently and allows you to understand the muddy waters that occurred – nothing is ever as straight forward as you might be lead to believe.
Who is bad? Who is good? Who is dangerous? Who is safe to know? Who should you help?
So read it and discuss it!
