Thank you to the publishers for this review copy, I have seen it compared to Tayari Jones & Oyinkan Braithwaite. Whilst I can see why these comparisons are being made I’m not sure I would have made them myself. I didn’t feel any humour in this book, yet I did with Oyinkan’s debut. I wasn’t as gripped by this book as I was with Tayari’s novels, which I found more engaging. This book was a hard read, depressing at times, certainly hard hitting, definitely not a beach read. But it was a good read and one that I think certainly deserves to be read by many. I would be very tempted by any future book she writes, so I will certainly be watching out for them and look forward to discussing this book with many after publication.
