Now I admit I bought my signed hardback edition on publication day and it has sat patiently in my pile to read.
I didn’t need to rush it to the top I knew that whenever I picked it up it would be simply brilliant.
This is a gentle story, looking at the war experience for Charles and his mum Laura. Both very different experiences.
Charles goes off to war in the Navy and his mum takes in war refugees.
You can imagine the worry of Laura and you wonder how Charles will fit in?
Charles is a child genius with so much to achieve but can he survive the navy? Will he feel included.
Brilliantly told and highly recommended.

I’ve previously read A Place Called Winter and Take Nothing With You by Patrick Gale – also both highly recommended.
