This book was not on my ‘to be read pile’ prior to ‘Between The Covers’ announcing its series 5 books – so this was bought specially to read before they discussed it.
I confess that I had not read any Jess Kidd books before this one. I’d also heard mixed reviews about this book, many suggesting it was perhaps not her best. As we all know there is only one way to find out – read it for yourself. The book is set over two-time frames, (1989 and 1629) with the chapters alternating between these which I can sometimes struggle with, but this was no problem to switch between the two as you read without getting confused or lost off. This novel is based on a true event brought to life by the author’s imagination of the good, bad and ugly that occurred during the original events.
My verdict, very well written and certainly an interesting novel to read. So, I am now ready to check out some of her other books, I just need to decide which one to try next.
