I read an article on the BBC news website last week indicating that of all the scientists mentioned at GCSE level there was only 1 woman.
This sparked me thinking… how many could I name? We had a discussion at home and between us we could name a good few, but we could name more men.
Then this book landed on Saturday morning so it was obviously an instant read and discussion point in the house.
Of the 21 women listed in this book we knew only 6. Obviously we have now had our eyes opened to another 15 women.
Their stories and achievements in this book are fabulous, Katherine Johnson perhaps remains my favourite.
However, some of these are truly eye opening in so many ways.
I think this book would make a great addition to all family or secondary school libraries.
These women scientists need to be known about, discussed and admired!
Highly recommended – so get it gifted far and wide this Christmas.
