This book was unknown to me before it was longlisted for The Booker Prize 2026, at which point I was tempted to purchase… but resisted.
However, as soon as it was shortlisted then I gave up resisting and purchased it.
So I was expecting to laugh out loud frequently as I turned the pages, expecting to read something I personally wouldn’t have predicted to be on The Booker lists.
My verdict, quirky, funny but also a little sad in places, but I think it is fair to say not a book I would have predicted for The Booker list.
Let’s see if it wins in November…
