Hotel Exile by Jane Rogoyska was shortlisted for the Women’s Prize 2026.
It immediately appealed to me when it was longlisted but I was concerned about how much of the third part of the book would break my heart when I reached it.
So I’ve sat on it for a while but this weekend I finally found the courage to face it.
This is such an important read, especially the third part where people return from the prisoner of war camps.
The return from the camps is of course a great thing but those poor people, the state of their physical and mental health. The information they return with, all utterly heart breaking.
A book that everyone should read.
Very happy to recommend it.
