The Benefactors was already on my radar before it was announced as part of the longlist for the Women’s Fiction Prize 2026, but I had heard mixed reviews so it wasn’t one of the first ones I bought or read.
Still sat on the fence I randomly read a few middle pages in the bookshop to sample the writing and immediately bought it at that point.
So I agree great writing style, certainly an author I will watch for future book releases but I didn’t really engage with the characters and it wasn’t the easiest book to follow so I am back on the fence with this one.
