Purchased this today as it was shortlisted for The Booker Prize 2026.
I have never read anything by M. John Harrison before so I had no idea what to really expect, I had seen a lot of reviews and the opinions of these reviewers seemed to be from DNF to winner…
I am going to sit on the fence a little with my review.
I very much enjoyed the writing and I do feel it came together at the end but if I am honest I found myself lost and wondering what was happening… maybe that’s how it should be maybe it was just my opinion.
I think it’s possibly a marmite book that you will have to experience for yourself.
