Thank you to the publishers for this review copy, it was great to see it long listed for the Women’s Prize for Fiction.
The hardback is an absolute beauty, especially the special edition, this design is winning so many hearts
I have previously loved Almost English by Charlotte so I was very keen to read this latest novel.
I confess it took me a little while to settle into the novel, but then I was completely engrossed in it’s writing style and devoured the final 250 pages in one sitting.
Such a dysfunctional family also brings out strong feelings towards the characters, the husband has held the limelight for so long but he is beginning to be overshadowed by his wife’s talents and achievements. It’s heart breaking in places, but an excellent novel to read.
Happy to recommend on to all, hope it makes the shortlist in April.
